Movie Review: Gotti

Gotti was a movie that was released on the HBO  television network in 1996. This movie served  the purpose of being a small re-enactment of  John Gotti and his nefarious reputation.

The leading actor for this movie was Armand  Assante who did an amazing job with the role he  was given to perform.

In this movie, John Gotti, starts off as the head  of a small New York mafia crew. At this point in  time, he was a crew leader for the infamous  Gambino family. As time further progresses in  the movie, John becomes a little distressed when his boss, Carlo Gambino, dies and makes his underboss Paul Castellano the new boss of the family. Eventually John and others of the family were feeling that Paul was tearing out the roots of what the family was originally about. They decided to set out a hit on Paul and John Gotti took on the position as boss with his best friend Sammy Gravano becoming his under-boss. While this is all going on, in the background the FBI has been trying to bring Gotti to justice with multiple indictments. Nothing at the time the FBI brought to the court could put Gotti away. It was like he was invincible. This is when he got the name Teflon Don. The FBI later got voice recordings of John Gotti admitting to multiple crimes and including a possible future hit on his under-boss Sammy Gravano. The FBI showed Gravano these tapes and he testified against John Gotti in court where he was sentenced to life in prison with no parole.

In my personal opinion, this movie is one of the greatest mobster/mafia movies I have seen to date. Not only does the lead actors and actresses play there parts magnificently, but also the story of the Gambino family is just such an incredible one. If you’re interested in these types of films, I highly recommend you check out “Gotti”, where you’ll learn about John Gotti’s rise in the Gambino family and eventually his fall to his own demise.

My Personal Movie Rating: 9.1/10
